My Beautiful Sister

Confident in herself,

She struts around-

And makes the world her runway.

Believing in herself,

She walks around-

With no obstacles in her path.

This strong, confident woman:

Is my beautiful sister.

Solving problems like a ten-piece puzzle,

She’s the one to go to.

A word of advice at the tip of her tongue,

She’s the one to talk to.

The smartest, the wittiest, and the bravest heart:

She is my beautiful sister.

Moments created together-

Forever cherished.

Laughs shared in each other’s company-

Forever doted on.

Mundane conversations, and exceptional ones-

Forever looked forward to.

These are the few things I do-

With my beautiful sister.

My confidante,

My companion,

My friend,

My comrade,

She is my beautiful sister.

Ma

A past, I barely know of;
A struggle, you seldom speak of;
And emotions, that are hidden-
Make up this woman, full of love for her children.
This woman who speaks, not of the past, only of the present,
And, known for the mental and emotional strength she possesses.
This is the woman I get to call “Ma”.

The definition of the “strength of a woman ”

Attains a lot more meaning when it comes to you.

The unknown events before my birth,

And those after it,

Have made you the woman you are.

And, more than anything else,

It makes me aspire to be half the woman you are.
Thank you, and I love you-

Are seldom uttered.

However, the magnitude of my appreciation for you,

And, the perpetuity of the love I have,

Exceed anything that I could ever express.

And, I want you to know-

The “goodnights” and the “good mornings”,

Hold all the unspoken words,

That seem too awkward to be said aloud.
A past, I barely know of;

A struggle, you seldom speak of;

And emotions, that are hidden-

Make up this woman, full of love for her children.

This woman who speaks, not of the past, only of the present,

And, known for the mental and emotional strength she possesses.

This is the woman I get to call “Ma”.
The best has been given to us,

And, failing to give the appreciation it calls for,

We forget to say Thank You.

A life without her, is unimaginable.

A life with her, is everything that we could ever need.

Blessed, indeed, we are to have her as our mother.

Four Years Older

Four years older,

And five times wiser.

Four years older,

And ten times stronger.

The journey that is your life,

Keeps me in awe-

Of all that you have gone through.

Survival is a whole new meaning when it comes to you,

You have taught me so much,

Without it dawning on you,

And, for that, I cherish having you as a sister.
You taught me to never give up,

To strive for what I believe in.

You taught me to not let others put me down,

And to not let hateful words affect me.

You have taught me take whatever live throws in my direction,

Head on, and to cope with the changes that come with it.
Thank you, for showing me right from wrong,

Thank you, for teaching me to be strong.

Thank you, for demonstrating how to survive,

Thank you, for the being you have given life.

Thank you, for being you.

Fear

The fear of what lies beyond this world-
That, is the greatest fear of all.
It is the one that inspire people to live,
To continue living,
And, to do what we can to stay alive.

An unknown force drives us to do something.

It could either be fate, or faith that pushes us.

It could even be love, or hope that does it.

Or it could be fear that does the job.
The fear of doing wrong-

Pushes people to do the right thing.

The fear of disappointment-

Encourages people to work harder than ever.

The fear of losing someone-

Prompts people to do things they never imagined they could.

Fear also makes people cheat, and lie.

The fear of getting caught doing something wrong-

Compel people to lie about it.

The fear of facing consequences-

Provoke people to cheat their way through life.
The fear of what lies beyond this world-

That, is the greatest fear of all.

It is the one that inspire people to live,

To continue living,

And, to do what we can to stay alive.

Beauty

To ridicule an object of beauty,
Is to blemish a memory,
To mar a truth,
To destroy a love.
‘A thing is beauty, is a joy forever’.
To ruin that object,
Is to ruin the joy that it brings to someone.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

What someone finds beautiful,

May be in contrast to what we think is beautiful.

The most outlandish thing to someone,

Could mean a great deal to someone else.
However, beauty does not lie in the object.

It is what lies within the object that makes it beautiful.

Beauty lies in the memory associated to the object,

It lies in a truth we are unaware of,

In a love we are unaware of.
To ridicule an object of beauty,

Is to blemish a memory,

To mar a truth,

To destroy a love.

‘A thing of beauty, is a joy forever’.

To ruin that object,

Is to ruin the joy that it brings to someone.

Simple Joys

The simple joys in life.
That is what we need to acknowledge.
The sound of laughter ringing in our ears,
The screams of happiness from children around us,
The look of pride on our parents’ countenance,
The perpetual love we receive from our siblings.
Contentment in these things have to be achieved,
Appriaciation in them has to be given,
Reciprocation of the love and laughter has to be restituted.

The simple joys in life.

That is what we need to acknowledge.

The sound of laughter ringing in our ears,

The screams of happiness from children around us,

The look of pride on our parents’ countenance,

The perpetual love we receive from our siblings.

Contentment in these things have to be achieved,

Appreciation in them has to be given,

Reciprocation of the love and laughter has to be restituted.
Those unfortunate to feel these simple joys crave for it.

They crave to hear the laughter of their loved ones,

They crave to see their children screaming with joy,

They crave to see their parents’ proud faces once again,

They crave to feel the unbridled love that a sibling can give,

They crave the simplest of things which are neglected by many.
Those of us fortunate enough to have these things-

Should be gratified with all that we are blessed with.

Our selfish desires,

Our ability to condemn,

Our need to shackle the minds of people soaring higher than us,

And the greed that seem to overpower us,

Must come to an end.

I try, from this day forth,

To be better than I am now,

To learn to be grateful for all that I have

And, to enjoy the simple joys that life offers.

Dear Brother

Twenty-nine years have gone by,

And each year that goes by-

My respect for you grows.

Eight years, I did not know you,

And I wish I had.

I recall little of the first few years that I knew you,

Yet I know that I always respected and cared for you.

I saw you in school everyday, but not at home.

And when I visited you on the weekends,

I was always in awe of you.
Years passed, and an artist blossomed.

An artist who was passionate about what he loved,

And about what he belived in.

Family was always on your mind,

And you always stood up for us.
The strength you show, when times are tough-

Is something I will always admire.

The love you have, for the sisters that follow you-

Is something I will always cherish.

The talent you have-

Is something I will always be envious of.

The things you do when people overstep-

Is something I will always applaud.

And the love you have for your family-

Is something I will always hold in high regard.
